Wolrdwide it has been estimated that the costs of bad safety at work adds to an estimated 1.25 thousand million US dollars annually. Even more dismal is the 2 million workers who died as a result of work.

It’s been established within US businesses, how a dollar invested in safety initiatives returns three as a the benefits are accrued.

When it comes to improving workplace safety, there is a methodology of surveying hazards, reducing identified hot spot risks and then taking behavioral measures for the irreducible exposure . Those behavioral changes need to be implemented in the organization and are a source of continual reinforcement once safety signs have been installed. Placed strategically around the work site, hazard signs are the constant reminder of your corporate culture of safety – they work well to support the other steps

With the many types of safety signs for all situations they have had to be organized into groups around their severity . We’ve all seen the Danger signs that identify the really serious life threatening risks, then there are Caution signs, followed by the Stop and finally Notice signs , the last two groups being mainly of an informational nature.

As our desire is to gain the biggest benefit improving on safety, we’ll just review the Danger and Caution hazard signs here. 

A caution sign’s task is to warn of conditions not life threatening, but none the less, could be a risk to human health and/or the environment. Adhering to standard conventions, caution signs are made with a yellow background and black print to deliver a strong message.

A caution safety sign’s safety message needs to be effective because no one wants injuries at work.

The danger sign means just that; a serious threat to life is present and failure to respect this sign will have serious consequences: perhaps even death. Wherever it’s common to use chemicals, electricity and heavy machinery you will see danger signs a plenty.
